Specializing in testing concrete, soils, metal, asphalt, masonry and other materials sampled from the field, Capitol Engineering regularly provides quality control for commercial, hospital, residential and school projects throughout the Greater Sacramento Valley. Field and laboratory testing equipment and methods comply with the latest ASTM standards. Capitol Engineering Laboratories holds the Division of the State Architect LEA #34, and we are Charter Members of the California Council of Testing Inspection Agencies.

In addition, we are engaged in the test of products of special assemblies such as suspended ceiling systems, mobile home components, shear walls, roof diaphragms, structural fastening, and the investigation.

Field and laboratory equipment and methods comply with the latest ASTM standards, permitting us to check concrete for air, unit weight, slump, temperature, and compressive strength. Our concrete expertise is recovnized throughout the local industry with concrete core drilling machines and in-situ testing equipment for us on old or new projects.

Fill control and field density testing for relative compaction is handled by our experienced engineering technicians, who can provide continuous inspection or periodic testing of grading operations by standards ASTM and California methods, including sand cone and nuclear testing procedures. Testing results can usually be reported to clients while our technicians are on-site.

We also test paving materials, including subbase, base, cement treated base, asphaltic concrete, rigid pavement, and provide plant inspection and placement inspection.

Services include inspection of plant fabrication and field erection of structural steel, welded and bolted connections, non-destructive testing by dye penetrant, magnetic particle and ultrasonic examination.

Welder qualification facilities are available to certify welders at our shop and outside locations. We certify for most positions, processes and technologies of ferrous metal welding. We also offer field testing of metals and other construction materials by dead load, dynamometer or hydraulic load testing. Such work includes bolt pull out, wall bending and shear tests; full scale testing of beams, roof, floor and similar field requirements.

We provide statistial quality control records for many types of materials and products. Research and development testing of manufacturers products and ultimate certification of them to particular industrial standard is a typical assignment.
